LandRover axle identification

Several different axle types have been fitted to the Agribuggy particularly between 1989 and June 1993. To identify an axle type please look for the serial number on the casing next to the axle breather. The first three digits signifies the axle type eg. 61L. This code is required when ordering parts

The standard axle types are as follows:

1993>

Front steer 61L (Def'r 90)
Rear steer 62L (Def'r 90)
Rear 42S (Defender 90)

All axles with these serial numbers have twenty four splines where the halfshafts fit into the differential.
Rear axles have disc disc brkes

1991 - 1993

Front steer 20L (LR 110)
Rear steer 23L (LR 110)
Rear 22S (L'dRover 90)

All axles with these serial numbers have ten splines where the halfshafts fit into the differential.
Rear axles have drum brakes

<1991

Various used but majority were LR 90 front and rear.

May have had oversize(LR110) brakes - Identify on page 10 where all front pad types are shown.
If the outer drive member (see below) has six bolts holding it onto the hub then this signifies that it is a series 3 hub & brake assy (see 2D axles page 223). This type is fitted with a Range Rover axle casing and stub axle with a LandRover 90 halfshaft (page 230).

For non-standard axle types the parts should still be identifiable from one of the above parts drawings.
